The opportunities provided via student leadership, especially in college, have been proven to build a strong foundation for connections and skills that are applicable in any situation. I have always been passionate about making a difference in my community, and threw myself into leadership roles at UCF to truly have an impact on the people around me in the best way possible.

From before my college career even began, I was involved in the Residence Hall Association at UCF, and I genuinely consider it the first best decision I could have made during college. From applying to be Towers Area Council Marketing Chair to representing 10,000 on-campus residents for two years on the RHA Executive Board, I learned quite a lot through my mistakes and opportunities as a student leader. Being a part of this organization undoubtedly was a formative experience during my college career, and the skills that I learned from this and the rest of my leadership positions absolutely will follow me into my future career.

Effective communication is one of the most important skills developed through experiences like these.  I learned that it is essential for building strong relationships, collaborating with colleagues, and advancing my career. Leaders who can communicate clearly, listen actively, and adapt their communication style to different audiences are highly valued in any organization, which is why I continue to place such an emphasis on it, even after graduating.

Teamwork is another essential skill developed through these positions. Every experience I've had required collaboration and teamwork to achieve common goals. Leaders who can work effectively with others, delegate tasks, and support their colleagues are highly valued in any team-based environment. Learning the balance between leading, delegating, and working together has been invaluable, and I continue to utilize these skills in every portion of my life.

These experiences taught me the importance of perseverance and resilience in leadership. I faced challenges and setbacks along the way, but I learned how to remain focused and motivated despite these obstacles. This involved setting realistic goals, developing strategies to achieve them, and being adaptable in the face of changing circumstances. Challenges come from every which way no matter what profession you're in, and being able to keep calm in an immediate emergency has proven vital.
